The New Award Schemes
With an important role to play in recognising and rewarding good practice, the NCPTA decided to launch two new award schemes in its 50th Anniversary year. These celebrate PTA achievement in various categories together with initiatives which encourage parents to become involved in their children’s education.
The NCPTA Gold Star Rewards were created to recognise best practice and achievement for the more traditional PTA activities.
LEAPP - Learning Education and Parental Partnership Awards will provide seed funding to schools or parent groups for new projects aimed at increasing the number of parents involved with schools in the education of their children.
The judging panel for both schemes was chaired by Baroness Estelle Morris (former Secretary of State for Education) and included Professor John Adams (Chair, National Governors’ Association), Mike Baker (Education Correspondent, BBC), Mick Brookes (General Secretary, National Association of Head Teachers), Sue Kirkham (President, Association of School and College Leaders), Amanda Buchanan and Martin Cox (Trustees, NCPTA) and David Butler (Chief Executive, NCPTA).
The range and calibre of entries received in 2006 was excellent and the NCPTA would like to thank all of those who submitted applications. We would like to extend our thanks also to the judges for their hard work and commitment to ensuring very high standards throughout the selection process.
